We are thrilled to share the inspiring story of Diane Elsden, an extraordinary artist who embodies the essence of both opulence and humility in her work. Born in Wellington, New South Wales, Diane discovered her passion for painting at an early age, a passion that she nurtured throughout her remarkable career.
During her time as an Air Hostess for Ansett Airlines in Papua New Guinea, Diane’s artistic journey took flight alongside her professional travels to many stunning destinations. Twice, her talent was recognized with the prestigious PNG Post Courier Art Prize for her exquisite still life paintings.
Diane’s portfolio includes numerous solo and group exhibitions and has garnered multiple prestigious awards. Her works are proudly displayed in art collections across Australia and around the globe. Her versatility as an artist is rooted in her extensive studies with internationally renowned artist Michael Taylor, along with invaluable mentorship from the late Frank Hodgkinson and Brian Malt.
In her charming Grasstree Studio in Toowoomba, Diane creates large, expressive abstracted landscapes that capture the lush beauty of gardens and bushland. Her love for watercolour and gouache shines through in her paintings, and she is passionate about mentoring fellow artists.
In 2023, Diane was honored as the Feature Artist at the RME Downlands Art Exhibition, Queensland’s premier art event. Her acclaimed exhibitions, "My World of Gardens" (2019) and "My World of Flowers" (2021), beautifully reflect her ongoing project of capturing gardens, from the most opulent to the humblest, around the world. In 2013, she was recognized as one of Queensland’s Leading Women by the YWCA, joining the ranks of notable figures like Quentin Bryce and Gail Mabo.
