Before long-lasting batteries, kerosene hurricane lamps π lit up the Australian bush. The Lanora, made by Colton, Palmer & Preston in the 1940s, was wind-resistant π¬οΈ and provided 44 hours of steady light β³.
Used by the RAAF βοΈ in WWII and favoured by farmers π, campers βΊ, and road workers π§, it was built to last. By 1950, over a million were in use. Eventually, pressure lamps replaced them, but their legacy shines on. β¨
